The restaurant tax is safe for another year. The last threat to the TRCC, HB 148, failed to pass out of committee this morning. The bill, which would have created a statewide single-rate sales tax by eliminated so-called boutique taxes by funding them through an increased sales tax, was sent to interim study.

Soon after the end of the session, county officials will need to sit down with representatives from the Restaurant Association and see if we can't work with them towards a solution that we all can live with. Otherwise, we'll be fighting the same fight next year.
